Compared to other nations around the world, the US squanders electricity the most. With environmental problems such as pollution and ozone layer depletion, we have to be very aware of just how much electricity we are using.
Today, we are going to talk about a few things that we all can do to not only save electricity at home but save some money as well. These things are very simple to do that anyone can do them; even so, you will have to act for it to work and doing so you will help save the Earth.
One simple and easy thing you can do is to simply switch off the lights when you leave a room. Many of us likely temporarily leave the living room lights turned on when we go to the kitchen to get food because we believe we are coming right back. If you do this for just a few times a day, it could add up to at the least 30 minutes of wasted electricity. While it may not seem like much, the sad truth is millions of people are doing the exact same thing daily. If you add up the minutes for the year, that would be more or less 182 hours of electrical energy just for one light in one room for each soul that does this. Next try multiplying that by just 1 million people. That’s 182 million hours of electricity squandered yearly coming from a light that is left turned on in a single room.
In addition to leaving the lights on when exiting a room, a lot of us turn the lights on when going inside a room. Many of us do this without thinking. I find I am guilty of this quite often. However, there could be enough light, perhaps sunlight, coming into a room. And yet, we come into a fairly lit room and flip the light switch to on. Plus, many of us forget to turn the lights off because there is already a lot of natural light coming in we don’t realize the light is still switched on. You simply need to make the extra effort to not switch the lights on if there is enough natural light coming in.
One more problem is people leaving electric devices like TVs and radios on the entire day, even when they are not using them. When I come visit my mom, I have to remind her to switch the television off since she would leave it running even though she’s not watching. That’s a good deal of electrical power being squandered. So, if you are not watching the telly, only flip it off.
These are only a couple of things that we all can do really easily but can have a great effect on our efforts to not waste electrical energy and to save our planet. If everyone makes just a tiny effort to do these very simple things, it can add up to make a great difference.
