Government researchers have confirmed that plumes of oil are spreading far beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico — anda distance from the leaking well. Wildlife specialists point out only 10 to 20 percent of oiled birds will ever be located. However on Tuesday they found more. At least one oil field is on fire in the center of the Gulf – a controlled burn of surface oil, part of BP’s frontline defense.
